Not far from Main Street is a little neighborhood, with a little street, lined with trees, a small park and a number of businesses. It’s like a quaint oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of Kingsway and Fraser. It’s 663 East 15th Avenue – home of Les Faux Bourgeois, a local neighborhood French Bistro.
Opened over a year ago, this quaint, dimly lit bistro not only offers great food but it offers charm with a true French accent. On the weekends, they offer coffees and Thomas Haas croissants from the cafe.
At night, whether you sit at the bar or have reserved a table, you’ll enjoy the atmosphere around you, the wine and the food!
Some menu items I have enjoyed immensely: Soupe a l’oignon gratinee – there is nothing like a really good french onion! Moules; Mt. Pleasant Picnic – cheese plate from the cheese shop on Cambie; Pate de campagne – house made and you won’t want to share; Fausse nicoise – must be one of my favorites, its traditional enough that it satisfies all my flavour cravings!
Choose a traditional Le steak frites or try something not on every menu in the city – Canard confit, served with a frisee salad, it’s light, tasty and crispy!
If you choose to enjoy some wine – they have a great variety by the glass and by the bottle. Check the specials board for daily arrivals of wines by the bottle and Chef creations!
Reservations are a must.
